Section 15 of the Employment Act states that, employers shall compile a Job Description, with all of the mandatory information mentioned in the Act, and hand the Job Description to each employee.

Section 13 of the Employment Act states that, employers shall form an agreement, in writing, with each employee, and hand a signed copy of the Agreement to the employee. It also states that the Agreement must at least include, all the information mentioned in the Section.

The following template includes the minimum requirement of Employment Agreements as required by Section 13 of the Employment Act. The employer, at their discretion, may include additional terms and conditions related to employment in this Agreement. However, such a term shall not impede any rights granted to the employee by the Employment Act. Section 52 of the Employment Act (2/2008) and Section 12 of the Regulation on Service Charge (2021/R-41) states that employers shall maintain and submit monthly records and information of Service Charge to Labour Relations Authority (LRA) and Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA), from January 2021 onwards.

In order to facilitate an easier mechanism for employers to submit the mandatory information to both LRA and MIRA, the authorities have established a joint reporting mechanism where employers are required to submit service charge information via MIRA’s online portal “MIRAconnect”.
